It occurs randomly during gameplay on my console after a few hours. What happens when the bug occurs? In the middle of gameplay the game stops suddenly and I get a blue loading screen with spinning plumbob and a message that says "We are updating your graphics settings so that you can continue to enjoy playing The Sims 4". What do you expect to see? If there is something I need to change on my console settings myself, I expect it to tell me what to do to avoid this happening. I haven't changed any settings myself and can't find any mention of this message anywhere affecting others. I've done a console reset twice and reinstalled all my content twice. I've power cycled numerous times. Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? On console - never used. Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes Please describe the patch or change you made. It started a few months ago around the time I started to get a lot of crashing on save and exit and sometimes on travel or CAS then eventually on loading too. I already mentioned this on the feed about crashing on save and exit but it was suggested the 2 things weren't linked. It started after installing cottage living if memory serves me correctly. I'm extremely unhappy with the stability of the Sims 4 especially after purchasing a next gen Xbox specifically for this game after my Xbox one couldn't cope with all the content I had, it works fine for it's new owner with several games installed. I've had months of crashing on my brand new console and the feed on that subject has had no serious engagement from the Sims team, I've even reached out directly. I'm trying to get to the bottom of it myself but a lot of the research I'm doing mentions that graphics issues can cause crashing. So I want a definitive answer from devs or someone on the subject. I've spent so much money but every day I have issues, it takes 3 attempts to load my game now and I often have to restart my console in the middle of loading as it freezes. I play around 4/5 hours every single day. The 2 things did start around the same time so instead of putting up with the message I'm trying to get it resolved. If there is something that I need to change on my console to avoid this then I need to know, I've had enough of it now. If it's not linked to crashing then ok, that needs investigation for all of us separately as we have already reported. But everything I'm reading says graphics issues are a big factor in crashing. I had no problems with my brand new console before Cottage Living. I'd uninstall it if I hadn't used it in so many households. Edit by PoptartJuniper: Added tags, adjusted title.
Controls for The Sims 4 on consoles (Outdated as of February 2023)
Edited (June 2020) - With the latest patch, we have added a new Controls Overlay Reminder that shows up throughout CAS, Gallery, Live Mode and Build Mode which should make it easier for new Simmers to jump in and not need to remember all the controls. If you don’t want to be reminded and you know all the controls by heart, you can turn off the Controls Overlay Reminder in the Game Options > Other menu Hi Simmers, We have seen quite a few questions and discussions surrounding the controls so I thought this is the perfect opportunity to put our heads together and share some tips & tricks regarding controls. I'll start with the basics and a few not so basic, if you have tips of your own to share drop a post below. I will keep updating this post with all the new tips that come in 🙂 BASIC CONTROLS FOR XBOX BASIC CONTROLS FOR PLAYSTATION ADVANCED TRICKS Live Mode: Open cheats bar: Xbox: Press both the left and right triggers and bumpers (LT + RT + LB + RB) PlayStation: Press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 all at the same time Heads up: You will need to introduce testingcheats on to use cheats. If you use testingcheats, achievements will be disabled for the current save game. Show cheat options when clicking on Sims/objects (equivalent to Shift + click on PC): Xbox: press B + A. Make sure to press B first, and then A while holding B. PlayStation: press O + X. Make sure to press O first, and then X while holding O. Lock panels like the needs panel: press the right stick to pin an open panel. Clear notifications window: select the notification window, then press Right Trigger (Xbox)/R2 (PS4) to clear all the messages out. (Thanks to @PoptartJuniper here) Sell items in Sims inventory: (Thanks to @PoptartJuniper) Individual items in stacks: open the stack using the Right Trigger (Xbox)/R2 (PS4) while having the stack selected in the inventory, then press Y (Xbox)/Triangle (PS4) in an individual item to sell it. Stacks: while having the stack selected in the inventory, press Y (Xbox)/Triangle (PS4). Check goals for social events: (Thanks to @SimGuruKuxiku) Xbox: Press the X button to toggle goals on/off PlayStation: Press the [SQUARE] button to toggle goals on/off When goals are toggled on, you should also see them popping up at the top of your screen once the event started. Also, the description of each event type will get a line added to the top informing you about the challenge reward that you could get when closing off the event and its goals successfully. Buy/Build Mode: Toggle between grid / half grid / free object placing: This will allow you to place objects outside the grid. Xbox: Press the left trigger (LT) PlayStation: Press L2 Rotate objects: while having an object selected: Xbox: press LB or RB. PlayStation: press L1 or R1. Rotate objects to any angle: while having an object selected: Xbox: press LB/RB at the same time, then right stick to rotate. PlayStation: press L1/R1 at the same time, then right stick to rotate. Rotate floor tile: triangle (PS4) or Y (Xbox) while using the single floor tile tool. Toggle between full floor tile/quarter of a floor tile: square (PS4) or X (Xbox) while using the single floor tile tool. Toggle full room and 1 wall when painting: R1 or L1 (PS4) - either one of the Bumpers (Xbox) when using painting tool. Also applies when placing floor tiles or windows. Move one side of the eaves on the roof: Xbox: select the eaves with A and while it is selected, hold X and drag. A and X need to be pressed at the same time. PlayStation: select the eaves with X and while it is selected, hold square and drag. X and square need to be pressed at the same time. (Thanks to @electricfizz here) Change object size: while having an object selected: Xbox: press both triggers + left (smaller)/right (bigger) PlayStation: press L2 and R2 + left (smaller)/right (bigger) Change object elevation: introduce the cheat 'bb.moveobjects on' to activate moveobjects. Once active, while having an object selected: Xbox: press both triggers + up/down PlayStation: press L2 and R2 + up/down CAS: Clear filters: Xbox: Press X to open the filter and then Y to clear the filters with a category selected. [FAQ] Sims 4 Console Autonomy and Simulation Lag
First, please make sure you aren't being affected by these current issues, and post in those bug threads if so: [ALL] Experiencing Bad FPS loss/Lag in Build Mode please use Severe FPS loss (Lagging) when entering/exiting Build Mode [ALL] Very Low FPS in Live mode, not related to being in Build/Buy, please use Low FPS in Live Mode (Not Build/Buy Related) [ALL] Experiencing Bad FPS loss/Lag when taking pictures please use Huge FPS loss when taking pictures Otherwise: My sims won't respond to commands! They take too long to do anything! My sims just stand around for hours! Sound familiar? This is the place for you! If you are on PS4/5 You can share your affected saves. Twitter Save Sharing / AHQ Save Sharing. You can send your saves to either SimGuru. See also the current thread on The Sims Forums Regarding this issue: Sims 411 Please also check the bug forum for reports of issues that may be causing lag to be extreme. Bug Forum Autonomy and Simulation Lag/Troubles Power down your console completely, XB1 / PS4. Unplug the console for 2-3 minutes. During this time you can check your console to make sure it's clean of dust and has adequate ventilation. Relaunch the game to see if your issue persists. These issues are most common on: Original XBox One and PlayStation 4 Consoles Owning a lot of packs Very old saves Saves with lots of played households Lots of items in builds, including the use of lots of different packs in builds Lots of Sims in relationship panels of played sims because of lack of game relationship culling (Think friend of the world on a sim without aging on, etc.) The use of large lots (50x50, 64x64) Reset Your Sim Autonomy and Simulation Lag is not exclusive to console. There is a lot of information in that thread about the following frequently seen issues: Sims standing around doing nothing Sims not doing anything on their own (with free will set to max) Sims take forever to do a given command Time jumping backwards after fast forwarding to Ultra Speed. The Sims will usually freeze while fast forwarded. Sims come home late from school or work FPS Drops Things you can do in game: I did every single thing on that list and nothing worked! Uninstall and Reinstall the game and all it's expansion packs. XB1 PS4 Creating a New Save and Reinstalling the game did not help either! Most Cheats must be entered in Live Mode. Some cheats do not require testingcheats to be on. If you are having trouble, try turning testingcheats off and then enter the cheat again. Make sure you are typing the cheat in the cheat box and not in the "search" box. The search box has a character limit. Some build cheats require a blank search for the hidden and debug objects to appear. "Open the Search panel in Build/Buy and press RT (Xbox One) / R2 (PlayStation 4) to apply a blank search." An issue has been identified when playing The Sims 4 Growing Together on PlayStation or Xbox. When encountered, this issue can result in a sudden and unwanted change to your Sim's skin tone, hair style, and clothing. Please follow the guidance shared here to avoid this issue until a game update is available for these platforms. If you have a child in your household, you should watch for your child to receive the uncomfortable "Loose Tooth" moodlet. This moodlet can appear after a child wakes up from sleep, or participates in a strenuous physical activity. When you see the "Loose Tooth" moodlet on your child, you should then click on that Sim and select the "Pull Out Loose Tooth" interaction as soon as possible. Things to avoid: Avoid letting the "Loose Tooth" moodlet naturally expire. Sims 4 Lag on PS4
Hi, Ive had the Sims 4 for ps4 for quite some and i love playing, there are some times when the game does lag or you tell a Sim to do something and they stand still for a good few mins until they do it. There is quite a lot of lag when playing ive just tried to ignore it becuase i like the playing the game. For Gallery Maintenance Announcements, check the Official Sims Twitter or check the Pinned threads here Sims 4 General Discussion and Feedback If there are issues reported or maintenance scheduled, please be patient. You may need to relink your EA account to your Console after an Outage. In the game press the Options/Menu button to open the game menu. Select Game Options > Scroll down to "Other" then check to see if there's a button to "Link Your EA Account" if so, press the button to relink your account so you have access to the gallery again. General Connection Troubleshooting Console Specific Connection Troubleshooting XB1 / PS4 Sometimes the gallery just doesn't show items properly. This can often be resolved by simply closing the game out and relaunching it, or Powering Down your console completely (not rest mode). XB1 / PS4 There have been several patches addressing gallery issues. Make sure your game and console are up to date. XB1 PS4 Check that your game has online features enabled. Press the Options/Menu Button on the controller to bring up the menu. Scroll down to Game Options and select it. Select Other at the bottom on the left On the right side select "Online Features Access" Click Apply Here's a guide to gallery usage "Sims 4 Gallery" On the go? Bored at work? Save and download items in advance here "Sims 4 Gallery Website" Your downloaded gallery items will appear in your library next time you log on to the console. Common Questions I don't have a gallery at all just my library. I have a child account, how can I access the gallery? Or I am no longer a child, how can I access the gallery? "Age Restrictions for Online Gallery" (This link covers child accounts, aging child accounts up, and parental controls for both consoles) How do I find my Favorited Gallery items? When you open the gallery go to Profile > View Catalogue On the left side is a "View Content By" tab, select "My Favorites" Your favorite lots should appear. If not you can try changing the "Sort By" Selection to "Most Popular" or "Newest" depending on what is already selected. I can't download items from the gallery, I get the message to update my game, or that the content was created with a newer version of the game! "Can't Upload or Download from Gallery" (Currently this issue is resolved, but can happen again with later patches to PC) I get an error that my upload contains a disallowed word. The EA filter is very aggressive. It includes word filters for many languages. Please see the following threads that discuss this topic. I have spent a lot of money on this game. I own every add on but one (The Romantic Garden). I have just now started to have issues. I have played for a year straight and crashed once or twice. Now I can not save or travel in the game at all without being sent back out to the loading screen. I see this has been an on going problem with people for some time now. Are you working on a fix or was this a huge waste of money? Is there an update that will help? Please?
